I direct Tabletop Productions, a digital media project studio. Projects range from commercial & educational videos to documentary production and digital photography. I also teach television production, digital cinematography, graphics and animation, DVD Authoring, and manage the website at Indiana University's Department of Telecommunications.
When not working you might find me... Making & Listening to Music - I play and compose on the acoustic guitar, but also dabble on the mandolin, and sometimes electric bass, dulcimer, and violin. I'm truly fortunate to be married to Anne Hurley, an incredible cello player, and also to have many talented singer songwriter friends that we sometimes get to hang out or play with including: Art Heckman, Krista Detor, David Weber, Michael White, Carrie Newcomer, & David Bruker. Lately Anne & I have been spending time playing some favorites and working up some brand new ones. You might catch us at Player's Pub on April 28 in the songwriting showcase or in Krista Detor's upcoming CD release concert on April 26.
Sailing - This past summer my Anne & I went for a two week sailing trip up to Desolation Sound, BC. Sailing out of Bellingham, WA with a couple of kayaks lashed on deck, we meandered through the Gulf Islands, and up along the Sunshine Coast. Words and pictures could only hint at the beautiful sights and incredible experiences the BC region has to offer. Anyone interested in sailing there should check out the series of cruising guides documenting the Voyage of the Dreamspeaker. In 2006 Anne & I sailed up on Lake Michigan with longtime sailing pal Mark Longacre. Highlights include daily swims in clear water, watching an intense storm blow in (from a protected harbor), finding lots of Petoskey stones, and eating delicous food. (Be sure to dine at Windows restaurant and try some Traverse Bay pie in Petoskey.) In 2005 Anne & I had a great trip off of the coast of Maine. It was fun avoiding the lobster pots, visiting the Wooden Boat School and hiking on Isle au Haut. Be sure to drag a kayak along if you go! The hundreds of inlets are ideally suited for exploring by kayak. Kayaking - If there's no wind for sailing, then the conditions are usually good for paddling. Running - I especially love trail running as it's easy on the feet and a great way to lose cars and get into the woods. Sometimes I run with the Blooming Fools Hash House Harriers (BFH3). It's a great way to meet nice people who'll drink all your beer. If you like running and have an ounce of humor, you ought to try hashing some time. (My hash alias is "Ship for Brains") All you need is half a mind to hash! On On to the BFH3. Volunteering - Lately I've been serving On the Lotus Board. The Lotus Education and Arts Foundation gets my remaining time and energy. ---------- Old stuff: A trip to the North Cascades National Park. (slide show!). I really need to put some of my latest trips on-line.
